Gillian IntroGillian McCormick studied Drawing and Painting at the Edingurgh College of Art and then experimented with many different mediums before going on to complete a course in Decorative Glass at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing. The techniques she learnt, such as acid etching, sandblasting, painting, staining and fusing, opened up endless possibilities for creativity.
Now based in Dorset, Gillian specialises in the design and manufacture by hand of original panels for doors, windows, commemorative plaques, light boxes and free standing garden pieces.

Typically, a panel would be produced by etching or sandblasting areas of flashed glass, which consists of a thin layer of colour over clear glass. It is then possible to add complexity by painting the glass, before firing it in a kiln to 600C. A stain of silver nitrate can also be added, which produces a range of yellows after firing. It is this process - the addition of a yellow stain - that gives stained glass its name. A finished piece of glass may have been through several processes and firings in succession in order to achieve the desired result.

Some examples of her work are shown below, and if you would like to find out more please don't hesitate to send us an enquiry by clicking on the 'Contact Us' button in the menu at the top of this page.
