The strength of the sun can often take us by surprise these days, so it can be helpful to have some way of monitoring the intensity of the ultra violet (UV) radiation. These Magic Beads are made from a material that changes colour when exposed to UV light. They're pearly pale when viewed indoors, but change to pastel colours when seen in the shade, and bright blue, purple, pink, orange and yellow when exposed to strong sunlight. The Kids Label performs 2 functions - it's an ID bracelet and it's also coated with a UV sensitive material that can give a guide to the strength of the sun. Most parents are well aware of the need for their children to carry some form of identity whilst on holiday or out on a day trip in case they get lost or separated, and now they can combine it with a UV monitor as well!

The Oregon Scientific Portable UV Monitor is a great device for reminding you when you or your family are approaching the time when you should seek some shade or go indoors. It calculates your recommended maximum sun exposure time based upon your skin type, ambient UV level and the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the sunscreen you are using. It takes about 4 secs to calculate the UV rating, and then another press of the button sets the timer going that will alert you when you're approaching your maximum sun exposure limit and you're about to get fried!
