Repel 20 Tick Repellent Spray (20% DEET)

Repel 20 contains 20% DEET and will act as a deterrent to ticks and most other insect pests. It should be applied to any exposed skin, paying particular attention to arms and legs. It is said to be suitable for use by children from the age of two and typically it should be reapplied every 3 or 4 hours.

Ingredients: DEET (20%), Isopropanol.

Repel 20 is supplied in a plastic bottle with a pump action spray in two different sizes.

Bug Proof Neet Deet from Nomad - 100% DEET for applying to wrist and ankle bands. It can also be used for impregnating socks to help keep ticks and leeches at bay, and for treating hat brims and the edges of clothing, etc. However, it is a very concentrated product so it should be treated with respect and used with caution.

Bug Proof Insect Bite Kit - Wrist & Ankle Bands with Neet Deet

The Bug Proof Insect Bite Kit contains a set of cotton wrist bands, a set of cotton ankle bands and a 100ml bottle of 100% Neet Deet. The Neet Deet is used to impregnate the wrist and ankle bands, which then provide protection to hands and feet. Care Plus Repel-It insect repellent contains 12.5% Saltidin. Saltidin was developed as an effective alternative to DEET and it is also known as Icaridin, Picaridin or Bayrepel. Many people find it more pleasant to use than DEET - it has a light, clean feel and it doesn't smell as much.

It is said to be suitable for children from the age of two and typically it should be reapplied every 2 or 3 hours.

Mosi-Guard Natural Insect Repellent will act as a deterrent to ticks and most other insect pests. The active ingredient is Citriodiol which is a natural extract derived from Lemon Eucalyptus Oil.

It is said to be suitable for use by just about anyone - including children and babies from the age of 3 months and people with sensitive skin - but if in doubt medical advice should be sort from a doctor or suitably qualified healthcare professional. Organic Calendula Oil Tick Repellent

Calendula flowers (more commonly known as Marigolds) have been cultivated and used medicinally since the 12th century for treating cuts and grazes. Calendula Oil is also quite useful as an insect repellent and it can be particularly effective against tick attachment. Consequently it can be used as a good, natural alternative to chemical repellents.

Organic Calendula Oil Tick Repellent is supplied in a 45ml dropper bottle for dispensing small amounts for applying to your skin. It can also be used with animals or on clothing. Some attachment may still occur though so regular checks should still be made for ticks that have managed to attach themsleves.

Care Plus Tick Test Kit

The Care Plus Tick Test Kit is a revolutionary new product that enables you to test a tick that has bitten you for the presence of the Borrelia bacteria that causes Lyme disease. The tick must be removed from your body first using a tick removing tool but it is only the tick that is tested - there is no need for you to provide a blood sample.

To use, the tick is mashed up in the test tube provided with a small amount of liquid and then 2 or 3 drops should be applied to the test cassette with the pipette provided. The test cassette works in much the same way as a home pregnancy test kit - a red line will appear in the window if the test is positive.

(The Care Plus Tick Test is an immunochromatographic test and serves as direct proof of Borrelia antigens in the tick. When the test material is added to the test cassette it flows over the test lines through capillary action and if there are any Borrelia antigens present they interact with the immobilized reagents and a red line appears, indicating a positive result. If the test material doesn't contain any Borrelia then the Borrelia-antigens-antibody complex isn't created and the red line doesn't appear, indicating a negative result. For the test to be valid a coloured stripe should always appear in the control area to confirm that the material has spread thoughout the test area by capillary action.)

The Care Plus Tick Test Kit can be used to test several ticks at the same time if they are all mashed up together but the test cassette can only be used once.

(Note - if a positive result is obtained for the presence of the Borrelia bacteria in a tick this does not necessarily mean that the infection will automatically have passed on to the person bitten. However, it is a very good indication that medical consultation should be sought as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment for Lyme disease can be key in preventing some of the most dangerous and long lasting symptoms.)
