About the Better Cotton Initiative
What is the Better Cotton Initiative?
The Better Cotton Initiative (also known as Better Cotton or BCI) is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton. Their mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. Cotton is one of the world’s most important renewable natural resources. Safeguarding the growing and production of it is essential. Today, Better Cotton is grown in 25 countries around the world and accounts for 23% of global cotton production. The founding premise of Better Cotton is that a healthy, sustainable future for cotton and the people that farm it is in the interests of everyone connected with it. Craghoppers have been members of Better Cotton since January 2020. Craghoppers have ensured that all of its cotton T-shirts were produced from certified organic cotton standard, either BCI or Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTs). BCI is a global non-profit organisation that is driving cotton production which is better for those who produce it and for the environment. As members of BCI, Craghoppers ensure that their cotton meets the highest standards for sustainability, for workers conditions and that the right price is paid for the cotton. This is referred to the holistic approach to cotton production. Craghoppers believe that cotton is the most sustainable mainstream commodity and BCI cotton is the best.
