Safe Sea Sunscreen with Jellyfish Sting Protection

1) What is Safe Sea Sunscreen?

Safe Sea Sunscreen is a revolutionary, unique product that has been designed to protect you and your family by deactivating the Jellyfish’s stinging mechanism.

2) Why was it developed?

Safe Sea Sunscreen was developed to help protect against the stinging of most Jellyfish, Sea Nettle, Sea Lice and Coral.

3) How does Safe Sea Sunscreen work?

It contains unique, patented ingredients that deactivate the Jellyfish stinging mechanism. Applied on skin before going into infested waters, it helps to protect against most Jellyfish, Sea Lice, Sea Nettle and Coral.

4) What is a Jellyfish Sting?

Physical contact between exposed human skin and Jellyfish tentacles activates tens of thousands of stinging cells; these cells inject poison into the skin, creating, pain, rash and redness.

1. Stimulation from the skin initiates discharge process.

2. Pressure builds up in the capsule.

3. The shaft drills a hole in the skin.

4. A tube follows the shaft and injects poison into the body.

Clever development has enabled the anti-sting action to be combined with sun protection factors making this product perfect for holidaymakers, divers and swimmers alike.

5) Where in the world am I most likely to be stung by a Jellyfish?

You may be under the impression that it’s only foreign waters that attract Jellyfish, and indeed the beaches of Australia, Southeast Asia, the French Riviera, the Adriatic and the Caribbean are all infested with Jellyfish every summer. However, even the coastal waters surrounding the UK are filled with Jellyfish that can give the unsuspecting bather a nasty sting.

Safe Sea is available on its own as a protective lotion for divers and surfers, or as a sunscreen with an SPF rating of 40 in a spray format and 50 as a lotion.

Warning: Jellyfish can be dangerous. This product will help to protect you, but this should not be considered as a recommendation to go in to Jellyfish infested waters. If you are stung Safe Sea Sunscreen cannot be used as a treatment- always seek medical advice.

6) Is Safe Sea Sunscreen Reef Safe?

Reef Safe isn’t a legally defined term, but typically it refers to sunscreens that don’t include oxybenzone or octinoxate in the ingredients.  These chemicals are often used as UV blockers but they have been shown to be harmful over time to marine life.   Safe Sea Sunscreen doesn’t include these ingredients, so in this respect it can be said to be Reef Safe or Reef Friendly.

7)  Is Safe Sea Sunscreen Marine Friendly?

Safe Sea Sunscreen has been certified as Marine Friendly by the ‘Friends of the Sea’ certification programme.  The criteria for certification includes the following:

  • Releasing less than 20% of the chemicals into the water after 80 minutes.
  • The absence of chemicals that damage coral and marine life.
  • Evidence of testing from independent laboratories.

Studies have shown that when swimming or showering, a standard, non water-resistant sunscreen would be washed off completely releasing 100% of the chemicals into the water.  Typically, a water resistant sunscreen would release 50% of the chemicals into the water.  Safe Sea Sunscreen is certified as Marine Friendly because it releases less than 20% of the chemicals into the water.
