Craghoppers: Mindfully Made
Craghoppers believe that honesty, courtesy and respect are critical in all the decisions they make with customers, colleagues and the workers in their factories. Craghoppers are committed to creating products in a sustainable way and to making positive progress with this every year.
As active members of the Ethical Trade Initiative since 2012, Craghoppers ensure that 40,000 workers in their partner factories across 9 countries are covered by the ETI Base Code which is based on the standards of the International Labour Organisation. Craghoppers realise that to take control of their supply chain they must understand where their product comes from. In doing this, they have effectively mapped out their major material and component supply chains to ensure that they have full visibility of the suppliers who assemble the products and the fabric and accessories that are included.
By Autumn/Winter 2020 70% of Craghoppers products will be made using recyclable materials, compared to 12% in Autumn/Winter 2019. Craghoppers use yarns that have been sourced from suppliers that are certified by the Global Recycled Standard. Craghoppers also offer Lifetime Guarantees and a free of charge product repair service on all of their products. Craghoppers ensure that they have zero landfill even for their damaged stock. They donate stock to Newlife, a charity for disabled children. The majority of the cotton used in Craghoppers products is the Better Cotton Initiative cotton. They ensure that the cotton meets the highest standards for sustainability, workers conditions and that the right price is paid for the cotton. Craghoppers are members of Bluesign which is a globally recognised standard that ensures the materials are manufactured using kinder dyestuff and less water with the least harmful chemicals possible. Craghoppers have also taken a stand against the use of Down in all of their products and now they only offer man made fillings in all insulated products.
Craghoppers have clear targets in each department throughout the business to reduce their impact on Climate Change in every way possible. Transportation, road miles, efficiency, renewable energy consumption and water usage in their own facilities are measured and targeted. Craghoppers have also reduced their product packaging by 50% and they only use recycled materials in all of their printing. Poly bags are made from Oxo plastic which is reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Craghoppers are committed to creating products in a sustainable way - plastic bottles are recycled, yarn is repurposed, paper is used sparingly and dying processes use minimal water. They aim to make products that are built to last and reuse, recycle and repair wherever possible. This is most prevelant in our Ladies Miska Fleeces and Men's Corey Fleeces.
Craghoppers' Mindfully Made credentials are not only reflected in their products but also in the company they keep. In 2020, film director Pascal Schelbli was the first to win Craghoppers Film Prize for the Best Social Impact Film for The Beauty.
This brilliantly shot film, which through dramatic visual effects, illustrates what plastic pollution is doing to our oceans, provokes the audience to reflect on their own plastic waste. This fits in perfectly with Craghoppers' own agenda of using as much recycled materials as possible - including plastic bottles - in our ranges.
