The Sunday Afternoons Story

Founders Robbin and Angeline Lacy started their business in the late 1980’s after they made their first weatherproof blanket for their young family’s adventures. The “Adventure Blanket” gets noticed wherever it goes, inspiring Robbin and Angeline to make a venture out of their adventures by selling the blankets at craft shows and festivals. With colourful blankets piling up, they sought out a way of using the remaining scraps of fabric. These scraps of blankets were to become the first Original Adventure Hat, a formidable piece of headwear that would become the flagship release from Sunday Afternoons over a decade later. It features UPF 50 fabrics, a wide brim and protective neck cape. Within the year, Sunday Afternoons were selling more hats than blankets – they were onto something! Today, Sunday Afternoons offer more than 80 styles of hats and accessories for men, women and children and is known for its durable, stylish and functional headwear. Throughout this whole journey one thing has remained the same, the love of spending time outdoors with the family on a Sunday Afternoon.

What makes Sunday Afternoons stand out?

Sunday Afternoons also work with a third party to conduct ‘Code of Conduct’ audits to cover working conditions, business practices and product inspections. They will also ensure to make improvements where they are needed. Sunday Afternoons goal is to increase their green practices throughout and the majority of their hats are Bluesign Certified, they are also looking at replacing all materials to recycled and organic where applicable. They are looking into non-chemical alternatives to DWR and cooling for their performance finishes. This is a forward thinking company, who not only produce fantastic hats, but also have a number of conservation projects they support. We are loving their ranges of hats with the high percentage of natural fibres and feel that these are a great fit for Purple Turtle. We are excited to have them on board.
