Gillian McCormick studied Drawing and Painting at the Edingurgh College of Art and then experimented with many different mediums before going on to complete a course in Decorative Glass at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing.
The techniques she learnt, such as acid etching, sandblasting, painting, staining and fusing, opened up endless possibilities for creativity. Now based in Dorset, Gillian specialises in the design and manufacture by hand of original panels for doors, windows, commemorative plaques, light boxes and free standing garden pieces. |
| | Typically, a panel would be produced by etching or sandblasting areas of flashed glass, which consists of a thin layer of colour over clear glass. It is then possible to add complexity by painting the glass, before firing it in a kiln to 600C. A stain of silver nitrate can also be added, which produces a range of yellows after firing. It is this process - the addition of a yellow stain - that gives stained glass its name. A finished piece of glass may have been through several processes and firings in succession in order to achieve the desired result.
Some examples of her work are shown below, and if you would like to find out more please don't hesitate to send us an enquiry by clicking on the 'Contact Us' button in the menu at the top of this page. We will then send the enquiry on to Gillian, who will contact you directly.

| | Leadlights, panels and window displays can vary in size from a square few inches to several feet across, depending on the application. They can add interest and ambiance to any location where there is a combination of glass and light, and rarely fail to provoke interest and comment.
Prices can range from a few pounds for small 'generic' pieces to several thousand for a large, bespoke piece of work, but most custom made panels would generally cost between £50 and £250. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These versatile pieces of art work well in just about any outdoor setting, blending in or contrasting nicely as the seasons come and go. The frames are manufactured from galvanised steel that is resistant to all that the weather can throw at them, and the finished pieces measure 14cm wide by 1.6m tall (approx 6" x 5' 6"). Generally, prices range from about £110 to £160, depending on the design. | | | | | | | | | | | |
